American Institute of Architects - Continuing Education System (AIA/CES)

ECLE plays an active leadership role in the Lightning Safety Alliance, a registered provider for American Institute of Architects - Continuing Education System. ECLE representatives across North America present the free continuing education programLightning Protection Basics LSA101 providing one hour of HSW credit.

Lightning Protection Institute (LPI)

Lightning Protection Institute (LPI)

LPI promotes lightning safety, protection and education. Its efforts include:

- Standards: LPI 175 -Standard of Practice for the Design - Installation - Inspection of Lightning Protection Systems complements NFPA 780 and UL96A safety standards.

Certification: LPI certifies lightning protection professionals who have demonstrated through testing that they understand lightning protection standards and accepted industry practices. Candidates advance from Journeyman Installer certification to Master Installer, and then Master Installer/Designer.

Find an Installer: LPI has an online directory of Dealer/Contractor members that, 1) employ a certified Master Installer or Master Installer/Designer, 2) have been vetted by experts in lightning protection, and 3) uphold LPI's code of ethics.

Third party inspection is a building owner's assurance that a lightning protection system was installed according to specified standards and is able to perform as intended. LPI-IP provides the most comprehensive inspections with integrity and a commitment to both public safety and customer service. It has several building certification programs and other services to meet the diverse needs of both lightning protection installers and building owners.

Lightning Safety Alliance (LSA)

LSA speaks on behalf of lightning protection manufacturers, distributors, and installers to evaluate and respond to legislative, administrative, and regulatory issues facing the industry.

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

NFPA is a global nonprofit standards-writing organization devoted to eliminating death, injury, property and economic loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards. NFPA 780 - Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems is recognized as the basis for lightning protection systems in North America and can be read online here.

Ready.gov

Ready is the US Department of Homeland Security's public service campaign designed to educate and empower the American people to prepare for, respond to and mitigate emergencies and disasters. It contains links to the National Weather Service, FEMA, and other Government websites. Its recommendations for thunderstorm and lightning safety are here.

Safer Design for Safer Play

This online resource educates consumers, design professionals, and facility operators about effective lightning protection measures and best practices in lightning safety strategies for outdoor recreational facilities such as theme parks, golf courses, playgrounds and sports stadiums.

Scientific Lightning Solutions (SLS)

The SLS team has many decades of lightning monitoring, lightning protection design, and lightning testing experience. SLS' engineers apply state-of-the-art lightning research to engineering solutions for mission critical facilities such as aerospace, power generation, mining, green power, bridges and DoD installations.

United Lightning Protection Association (ULPA)

ULPA is an association of lightning protection manufacturers, engineers, contractors and technicians dedicated to promoting and supporting lightning protection in accordance with the nationally recognized safety standards. It's annual conference enables members to be on top of new research and best industry practices.
