The recent American Institute of Architects (AIA) Home Design Trends Survey asked more than 500 residential architects what they thought would be the most significant home design elements over the next ten years. Number Three on the Top Ten list of predictions is:
“Growing demand for design strategies that strengthen homes against natural disasters including elevating residences, windows with impact glazing, dedicated safe rooms and backup power generation.” (www.aia.org/press/releases/AIAB107953)
Lightning protection also satisfies the desire for safer homes with increased resilience against natural disasters. Indeed, it is more cost effective and provides greater protection than some of the design strategies mentioned in the report. That’s why East Coast Lightning Equipment, Inc. is actively reaching out to help architects understand the value lightning protection.
In addition to publishing and offering technical support, East Coast participates in the Lightning Safety Alliance continuing education programs. The Lightning Protection 101 course is registered with the AIA continuing education system and provides one HSW learning unit. The educational course is available, without charge, to professional and trade associations and qualified architectural and engineering firms.
