NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF BUILDING SCIENCE PUBLISHES ARTICLE ON LIGHTNING PROTECTION
According to ASTM E831, “a building enclosure includes all materials, components, systems and assemblies intended to provide shelter and environmental separation between interior and exterior.” Lightning protection must be seen as part of that enclosure and the August 2016 issue of NIBS’ Journal offers guidelines on incorporating lightning protection into high-performance building envelopes. The article also showcases the lightning protection system on the LEED-platinum Human Health Building at Oakland University in Rochester, MI, designed by SmithGroupJJR.
