East Coast Lightning Equipment (ECLE) recently hosted approximately 60 lightning protection professionals for two days of training in the most recent developments in their field. Jennifer Morgan, a Director of ECLE, explains, “There have been many exciting advances in lightning protection during the past few years. The meeting provided an opportunity for lightning protection designers and installers to stay up-to-date and share best practices from across the nation.”
Topics discussed included an update on industry standards being developed, new techniques for solving complex lightning and grounding problems, advances in surge protection, improved techniques for integrating lightning protection into architectural designs and protecting solar energy collectors, and changes in 3rd-party inspection programs. Attendees were trained to use new software for conducting lightning risk assessment and designing grounding systems. A new continuing education program from the Lightning Safety Alliance was also presented.
